Epic Angels, Asia’s 4th Most active angel network, enters Latin America with investment in Colombian recycling tech startup MUTA
Epic Angels, the largest global female-only investor collective and Asia’s 4th most active angel network, has announced its first investment in Latin America with MUTA, a Colombian startup revolutionizing the recycling industry through technology.
This milestone investment marks Epic Angels’ entry into Latin America’s growing startup ecosystem and reflects the increasing demand among female investors across the region to back meaningful innovation.
“This journey started when I was invited by the Cali Chamber of Commerce in Colombia to speak at the Capital Summit,” said Maaike Doyer, Founding Partner of Epic Angels. “That’s where I met MUTA, winner of the Summit, and I immediately knew this was more than a pitch. This was the beginning of something bigger: our move into Latin America.”
MUTA, co-founded by Estefanía Abello Plata, CFA and Alejandro Caiaffa, digitizes recycling collection and processing through an end-to-end SaaS platform. The company tackles a critical compliance and traceability gap in global recycling supply chains, positioning itself as a key player in the circular economy.
“MUTA’s model hits all the right notes,” said Maaike Doyer. “It’s deeply local and urgently global. It’s a tech company born out of operational pain, led by founders who get the industry and have bold, system-changing ambitions.”
The round, led by Impacta VC, included participation from SOSV, @New Ventures, Fondo Impacta, Vx Ventures, and Epic Angels, who contributed through a syndicate of 28 female investors, many making their first angel investment.
“Investing with Epic Angels has given the women confidence, community, and a front-row seat to a world-class startup,” said Vivian Argueta, Director of Innovation of the Cali Chamber of Commerce.
Plata, Co-Founder of MUTA. ”Partnering with Epic Angels not only strengthens our access to strategic capital but also aligns with our mission to drive economic opportunities for the recycling value chain. With their network of experienced investors and operators, we see a unique opportunity to accelerate our international expansion, strengthen our financial strategy, and drive deeper impact.”
Epic Angels, in partnership with the Cali Chamber of Commerce, plans to continue expanding in Latin America, connecting more women investors with early-stage startups that drive impact and innovation.
